2008 tiara awards finalists for best group Together for five years, Rae Moody, a 2007 CMAA College of Country Music Graduate and 2007 Toyota Star Maker Finalist, from Sydney's North Shore, together with Liz Kinninmont from Sutherland Shire, make up this exciting duo. The duo, each a product of the Australian Institute of Music’s contemporary voice department, met as they pursued studies as lead vocalists. They have achieved success in Sydney, as audiences are captivated by their uniquely distinctive harmonic rhythm. In 2004, Rae & Liz took their first successful trip to the Tamworth CM Festival. Whilst in Tamworth the girls performed at many venues and competitions, but it was at the Capital Country Music Associations 38th National Jamboree where they achieved their first taste of success. The Harmonators, winners for Best Group, became the Overall winners, one of very few groups to do so in the history of the competition. The Harmonators Tamworth success led to widespread media interest in Sydney. The girls have been interviewed and photographed for numerous local papers, and also recorded two segments for Channel Sevens national teen show, “Girl TV”. Their versatility allows The Harmonators to cross genres and appeal to a wider audience, this includes the corporate market, with appearances for companies such as Avis. They opened for Elvis Costello, Joe Camilleri, and Diesel at ‘A Day on The Green’ in the NSW’s Hunter Valley to a crowd of 5,000 in 2004. With the release of their self-titled debut EP featuring the first single ‘I Forget’, 2006 was an exciting year for The Harmonators. ‘I Forget’ secured spots in both the Top 20 CMC Video & the Top 100 Country Hits charts, it also earned The Harmonators a Tamworth Independent Artists Recognition Award (TIARA) nomination in the Duo category. Their second single ‘Wish I Didn’t’ written by Liz, was named a finalist in the 2006 Tas & New Zealand Independent Songwriting Awards in the Recorded Section and named a Top 20 finalist (#18) in the 2006 Musicoz Awards for Country Artist Of The Year. The single also charted on the Top 50 CMC video (#32) and Top 100 Country Hits charts. Liz & Rae were nominated as finalists in the 2007 Coopers Golden Saddle Awards and the Inaugural Horsham CM Awards for Independent Vocal Group Of The Year. This is definitely one up and coming act to make audiences sit up and listen. Since releasing their ep back in 2006, finally Rae & Liz have returned with their first single ‘Don’t Come Back’ hitting the Top 30 on both the Country Tracks and CMC Video charts, as well as the Top 100 Country Hits chart (#34) from their debut album ‘Here And Now’. The album is contemporary country, showcasing songs written by Rae & Liz, such as ‘Don’t Come Back’ and ‘No Limits’ (co-written with Darren Colston), and include songs penned by Mark O’Shea, Felicity Urquhart, Sam Hawksley and Grammy award-winning Randy Scruggs, with ‘If Love Ain’t Crazy’, ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’ and ‘Nowhere Bound’. The album shows The Harmonators in a new light, under the production of Matt Fell (Sara Storer / Jonah’s Road) and Michael Carpenter, confirming the duo's transformation into a new phase of their career. Their harmonies are beautiful, natural and harmonious, and raise the bar for their success – they are sure to shine, and have cemented themselves as an act to watch in 2008.
